LowCVP sixth annual conference

We've covered last year's Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership conference as well, and this year you won't want to miss it either. As the venue gets more impressive every year, so does the line-up. This year's conference is part of the first Green Car Day in London.

Morning programme
The LowCVP's sixth annual conference will take place on June 8th at London City Hall, familiar ground to one of the key note speakers, London Mayor Boris Johnson. The mayor will be responding to the morning keynote address by Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon.

"The Changing Climate for Vehicles and Fuels" is the day's umbrella. More in particular, the conference will revolve around government and industry responses to current threats – and opportunities – posed by the economic recession and climate change. These developments have prompted Government plans for a 'Green New Deal', which will transform the motor industry.

Apart from climate change, the morning sessions will include a debate on planned support for the motor industry, as well as presentations on the most promising alternative fuel technologies.

Afternoon programme
The conference is being held in association with the WhatCar? Green Awards (which will be held directly after the conference, at 18:00) and with the Revolve London to Brighton Eco-Rally.

Prior to the WhatCar? Green Awards, motor industry and representatives of various non-governmental organisations will be debating the Climate Change Bill: what strategic, marketing and technical approaches can deliver carbon reductions on the scale the Bill implies? Furthermore, from around 15:30 the Eco-Rally vehicles will begin to arrive at City Hall.

Who are the LowCVP
The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership are an action and advisory group, established in 2003 to take a lead in accelerating the shift to low carbon vehicles and fuels in the UK and to help ensure that UK business can benefit from that shift. Over three hundred organisations, from the automotive and fuel industries, the environmental sector, government, academia, road user groups and other organisations with a stake in the low carbon vehicles and fuels agenda, form the partnership.

Highlight: Revolve

Working together with LowCVP and WhatCar? during Green Car Day, is Revolve, an independent organisation based in London, UK. Events organiser and communicator of ideas Steven Glaser and creative director Mike Whelan form the core of Revolve.

Through high-profile events Revolve hopes to encourage and promote sustainable forms of transport, and accelerate the market for efficient and sustainable transport technologies and fuels. The name of the organisation combines the “revolutionary vision of zero emission transport for all” with the evolutionary steps needed to reach this goal.

Steven and Mike believe in education and information, so that is the aim of the events they organise and of the content on their website. They provide a press kit, 'smarter driving tips' such as Proof that "green" cars are a good investment, and other news.

Crown jewel of the organisation is the Eco-Rally, a demonstration both of the lowest emission vehicles on the market today, and of the most promising forms of future transportation. “You can expect to see all kinds of green machines: rickshaws, bikes, pedal-cars, quadricycles, family run-abouts, taxis, sports-cars, limousines, vans and even lorries!” the website promises. So there will be plenty to marvel at during London's first Green Car Day coming June 8th.
